Oat Straw

Oat Straw: A Wholesome, Nutritious Supplement for Reducing Anxiety

Oat Straw is a wholesome and hearty way of reducing anxiety and putting you at ease. You’ve probably had oats a million times before. The mature seeds of the Oat plant (Avena sativa L.) are in seemingly every supermarket in the world—and almost as many breakfast bowls. Those seeds are what we mean when we talk about “oats.” When used as a supplement to treat anxiety, Oat Straw is made from the unripened top of the plant rather than the ripe seeds. Because it’s unripened, the supplement form is sometimes known as “green oat” or “wild oat.” In the case of Oat Straw extract, people use the unripened parts of the plant to produce a tincture, a powder, or a capsule. It is also sometimes used to make a delicious tea. Oat straw has a long history of being used as an anxiety treatment. We have records of its use as a “happiness herb” in Germany going back centuries. It’s an important cure for anxiety in Traditional Chinese Medicine. More recently, in 1987, the German government’s Commission E, a group that investigated the safety of herbs and supplements, judged Oat Straw to be an effective and powerful treatment for anxiety. For more recent updates, scroll down to the section below to learn about the scientific findings regarding how Oat Straw can dissipate anxiety and strengthen concentration and focus. Here at Think Drinks, we put 800-1600 mg of this wholesome supplement in each bottle of Anxiedote to help you feel your best.

How Does Oat Straw Help You?

Research suggests that Oat Straw is a sturdy way of easing worry and unease. Studies have found that Oat Straw is great at inhibiting enzymes that have been linked to anxiety. In a few cases, after being given Oat Straw, lab animals completing stressful tasks showed reduced neurological activity associated with anxiety, as well as a decrease in physical symptoms of anxiety like sweating. Oat Straw is a powerhouse when it comes to helping your mind: researchers have found that Oat Straw increases cognition speed, the ability to concentrate and ignore distractions, spatial and working memory, multitasking, and mental tasks like arithmetic.

How Does Oat Straw Work?

Oat Straw contains a bounty of plant chemicals (phytochemicals) that affect how the mind works. For example, some researchers have suggested that Oat Straw might ease anxiety by inhibiting an enzyme, phosphodiesterase type 4 (PDE4), that is commonly linked to anxiety and depression. Other researchers have speculated that Oat Straw might lead to a decline in protein levels that have been linked to inflammation and are correlated with anxiety, stress, and depression.
